Every year, Women's History Month is celebrated throughout March, and Ohio is home to many fascinating historical sites that are perfect for celebrating this important month. Whether you visit the International Women's Air and Space Museum in Northeast Ohio, the Ohio Statehouse Museum Ladies' Gallery in Columbus, the Harriet Beecher Stowe House in Cincinnati, or one of many other destinations around Ohio, you have endless opportunities to explore women's history close to home. Start your journey with these nine places to celebrate Women's History Month in Ohio.

International Women's Air and Space Museum

1501 N. Marginal Rd., Ste. 165, Cleveland, OH 44114

Located in Cleveland at the Burke Lakefront Airport, the International Women's Air and Space Museum is certainly a must-see Women's History Month destination. Throughout aviation and space exploration history, women have taken to the skies to explore new frontiers. In addition to famed female pilots like Amelia Earhart and astronauts like Sally Ride, this museum explores the many contributions made by women who didn't achieve the same level of fame. The International Women's Air and Space Museum also explores the vast impact made by women on the science, engineering, and advancement of aviation throughout history.

Oberlin College

173 W. Lorain St., Oberlin, OH 44074

A post shared by Matt (@mcb0708)

Oberlin College has been a place of many firsts, championing the rights of women and all people throughout its long history. It was the first college in the United States to offer undergraduate degrees to women in a coeducational program in 1841, and the first to adopt a policy allowing people of color to attend college in 1835. The beautiful, historic campus is a great place to explore for Women's History Month, with exhibits where you can learn more about the college's history of advocating for the rights of everyone to have an education, some of the best on-campus museums in Ohio, and plenty more to experience as you tour Oberlin College.

Upton House and Women's Suffrage Museum

380 Mahoning Ave. NW., Warren, OH 44483

Harriet Taylor Upton was an important figure in the Women's Suffrage movement in Ohio, and the Upton House has been preserved as a museum to share the story of her life. One room within the home has been converted into a Women's Suffrage museum, exploring the contribution made by local suffrage advocates, including Upton, Phebe Sutliffe, Elizabeth Hauser, and Zell Draz. Tour the museum with the help of one of the expert volunteers at the Upton House, or explore on your own.

First Ladies National Historic Site

205 Market Ave. S., Canton, OH 44702

A post shared by Joe Faykosh (@joethefaker)

One of the only museums of its kind, the First Ladies National Historic Site tells the inspiring stories behind the women who have been First Lady throughout American history. Learn more about how the role of the First Lady has evolved and how First Ladies have found unique ways to make their own important historical contributions. In addition to the museum located in Canton, you can take a tour of the childhood home of Ida Saxton-McKinley right next door.

Ohio Statehouse Museum Ladies' Gallery

1 Capitol Square, Columbus, OH 43215

Ohio was one of the earliest states to ratify the 19th amendment, granting women the right to vote. A few years after the amendment was ratified, six women were elected to the Ohio General Assembly. The Ohio Statehouse Museum Ladies' Gallery explores the contributions made by those six women and the more than 150 women who have since served in the state legislature. This is one exhibit you won't want to miss when you tour the State Capitol.

Columbus Museum of Art

480 E. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43215

Throughout history, female artists have shaped culture, shared stories, advanced women's rights, and inspired millions through their artwork. The Columbus Museum of Art is a great place to explore the work of female artists throughout history and learn more about the contemporary artists still working to champion women's rights in the present day. Visit the museum to explore various exhibitions from women artists or attend one of many events that celebrate women's creativity. All Columbus Museum of Art tours during Women's History Month will also be themed around women artists.

National Annie Oakley Center at the Garst Museum

205 N. Broadway St., Greenville, OH 45331

Annie Oakley was a legendary sharpshooter, prolific performer, and beloved figure during her time. She achieved fame with Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show and was one of America's first female superstars. But her personality goes far beyond those notable achievements, and the National Annie Oakley Center at the Garst Museum is dedicated to providing a comprehensive look at her fascinating life. The Garst Museum features more than 35,000 square feet of exhibit space and over 300,000 artifacts, many of which are housed in the National Annie Oakley Center.

Cincinnati Museum Center

1301 Western Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45203

Many of the locations on our list are dedicated to specific women or groups of women who have made important contributions to our shared history, but what about all of the less famous women who have shaped Ohio history? The Cincinnati Museum Center is the perfect place to learn more about the many regular, everyday women who may not be famous but still made their mark by living, working, and advocating for women's rights in Ohio. Discover unique exhibits on the first all-female spacewalk, the fight for women's rights throughout history, and Cincinnati's inspiring female artists.

Harriet Beecher Stowe House

2950 Gilbert Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45206

A literary master with a complex legacy, Harriet Beecher Stowe was a fascinating figure who impacted American history. The Harriet Beecher Stowe House, located in Cincinnati, is dedicated to sustaining her legacy and educating future generations on her social impact. Whether you volunteer your time or make a donation, food banks across Ohio need support from the community to help as many people as possible. Even a small donation can make a big difference in the life of someone in need, so we've put together a guide to 8 Ohio food banks where you can show your support and make a positive difference in the community.

Greater Cleveland Food Bank

15500 S. Waterloo Rd., Cleveland, OH 44110

Northeast Ohio is home to a wide variety of food banks, including the large Greater Cleveland Food Bank, which serves more than 400,000 people per year. There are many ways that you can get involved, by making a planned donation, monthly donation, or contribution of non-perishable food items. There are also volunteer opportunities available in a wide variety of positions, from loading/unloading food to using specialized skills to help with large administrative projects within the food bank.

Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank

350 Opportunity Pkwy., Akron, OH 44307

The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank has been serving eight counties around both cities for nearly 40 years by storing and distributing food to a large group of smaller food pantries in the area. With 83,000 square feet of warehouse space and 8,000 square feet of freezer space, the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank can serve more than 500 food pantries, shelters, and other non-profit organizations in the region. This foodbank is always accepting donations of food and funds, so it's easy to give back in a way that works for you. You can also volunteer in various support roles at the warehouse or help with food distribution in local communities.

Second Harvest Food Bank

In its more than 35 years of serving Northeast Ohio communities, the Second Harvest Food Bank has distributed nearly 100 million pounds of food to those in need. The organization also needs volunteers to help package food backpacks, along with packages for senior centers and mobile food pantries.

NNEMAP Food Pantry

9 Venues for a Barn Wedding in Ohio

Barn Wedding Venues Around Ohio - Cutler Real Estate

Barns have become a popular wedding venue as many couples – particularly millennials – turn away from more traditional, formal locations. If you're looking for comfort but still want chandeliers and other signs of elegance, a barn wedding may be the way to go. As a bonus, you'll also have access to acres of natural beauty that create beautiful photo backdrops to help you remember your special day.

Check out the following nine venues for a barn wedding in Ohio.

Northeast Ohio

The Barn at Wolf Creek

2361 S. Cleveland-Massillon Rd., Copley, OH 44321

The Barn at Wolf Creek provides an authentic rustic setting to host your wedding day. It's situated on approximately 5 acres that have been cleared to create a park-like atmosphere perfect for guests to gather. Views of the sunset as well as a nearby horse farm create the perfect backdrop. The barn has been completely renovated, along with the 1880s farmhouse and carriage house, which now boasts an art gallery. A covered deck is also available for dancing, cocktails, guest seating, or other needs.

White Birch Barn & Vineyard

7180 W. Smith Rd., Medina, OH 44256

A centuries-old barn that's been renovated and restored, along with a vineyard that was planted in 2016, are the centerpieces of White Birch Barn & Vineyard. The owner's grandfather built the barn, which has a charming and rustic feel, and its floor is still made from the original wood that was used in its construction. An open frame and beams were hand-hewn and add to the barn's beauty. Although it's located only a 10-minute drive from Medina Square, the venue is secluded, making it the perfect wedding site. Adding to its charm – and making for wonderful photo backdrops – are turn-of-the-century farming décor, a pond, and white birch as well as willow trees.

The Barn at Hart's Grove

5926 St. Route 534, Windsor, OH 44099

Situated on over 550 acres of land, The Barn at Hart's Grove provides a rustic yet elegant setting for your nuptials. The main barn is black and white with a colonial theme and has 4,400 square feet of space. It has stained concrete floors, chandeliers, and other beautiful lighting. You'll also have access to a covered porch off the back of the barn and a patio at its side. With its bistro lighting and fire pit, the patio is ideal for entertaining your guests.

Columbus

Jorgensen Farms

5851 E. Walnut St., Westerville, OH 43081

Jorgensen Farms' restored historic barn is surrounded by beautifully manicured grounds and over 100 acres of pastoral beauty. A farmhouse is adjacent to the barn and is the perfect spot for your wedding party to prepare for the big event. The venue's team of event professionals can help you plan everything from the flowers to the cuisine. And speaking of cuisine, Jorgensen Farms is a working organic farm, so you and your guests will be able to enjoy fresh produce as part of the venue's culinary offerings.

The Barn on Chapel Road

11205 Converse-Chapel Rd., Plain City, OH 43064

The Barn on Chapel Road is an original 2-story Amish barn that's been restored. It's located amidst lush grass and fields of corn and beans that add to the setting's natural, rustic beauty. The barn's top story has a smaller, older space with a loft that allows you to see out an open hay door. The main room has an open floor space with a high ceiling and beams, along with chandeliers. And a French door provides beautiful views of the area's vegetation.

The Wells Barn Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens

1777 E. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43203

You, your wedding party, and your guests will be surrounded by the natural beauty of the botanical gardens if you choose to have your ceremony at The Wells Barn. It's adjacent to a four-acre Community Garden Campus, a colorful edible garden that's an ideal setting for a cocktail hour. Your guests can also enjoy an outdoor Live-Fire Cooking Theater.

Cincinnati

Centennial Barn

110 Compton Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45215

Located just about 20 minutes away from downtown Cincinnati, Centennial Barn combines elegance and rustic charm. It was constructed in 1899 and is made of brick, which creates a unique look. The barn has two stories and includes an open atrium. And if you choose to have your wedding at Centennial Barn, all of the rental funds will be used to support the work of Franciscan Ministries, a non-profit that serves those in need.

Rolling Meadows Ranch

421 N. Waynesville Rd., Lebanon, OH 45036

Rolling Meadows Ranch's wedding barn has a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace and can easily accommodate 325 guests. You'll be able to enjoy a 3,000-square-foot cocktail patio, two outdoor firepits along with comfortable seating, and outdoor pub tables and rocking chairs to keep your guests comfortable. The property consists of 40 acres of mature trees, as well as meadows and fields.

The Honeysuckle Ranch

1297 Wilson Dunham Hill Rd., New Richmond, OH 45157

The Honeysuckle Ranch is conveniently located about 25 minutes from downtown Cincinnati, but it truly feels like it's a world away. The working horse farm is located on 47 acres with trails, pastures, and park-like settings. In addition to the large barn, you'll also have access to an Amish-built gazebo and other buildings. A reception barn features twinkle lights and gorgeous décor to help create a magical setting. The property has countless photo backdrops, and the horses on the ranch are friendly if you'd like to work them into your photoshoot.

Order a Creamstick (or Two) at These 10 Places in Cleveland

Donut Shops - Cleveland, OH - Cutler Real Estate

Who came up with the idea of improving on perfection by adding filling to an already delicious donut? According to Smithsonian Magazine, this classic pastry was created in the mid-19th century by Elizabeth Gregory, mother of a New England ship captain. While preparing donuts for her son's crew, Mrs. Gregory cleverly added hazelnuts and walnuts in the center where the dough might not cook through.

As you celebrate Cream-Filled Donut Day on Monday, September 14, give a silent thanks to Elizabeth Gregory for her creativity. Get them individually or by the dozen at these favorite donut shops around Cleveland

While vegetarian and vegan diets have become increasingly popular, sisters Kharisma and Kyra Mayo realized there were few local options for vegan donuts. That changed when they opened The Vegan Doughnut Company, which began in their home and moved to a storefront in 2018. Even if you're not vegan, with mouthwatering flavors such as Cookie Butter, Lemon Lavender, and Maple Cream,  you'll never miss the dairy and eggs. Beer and donuts is the pairing you didn't know you needed in your life. Shelley and John Pippin, founders of Brewnuts, created a unique mash-up of a corner donut shop and neighborhood bar. Home experimentation with a countertop fryer led to craft beer-based donuts in flavors such as Maple Bacon, Strawberry Pop-Tart, and Blueberry Almond Crunch. Planning a gender reveal or other special announcement? Say it with Brewnuts' letter-shaped donuts. The Pippins collaborate with top local brewers for the beer featured in their donuts and on the menu. Coffee, tea, and other traditional breakfast drinks are also available. Brewnuts is closed Monday and Tuesday and open every other day until they run out.

Sweet meets savory to create the light, fluffy tenderness of Spudnut Donuts. Choice Idaho potatoes are the not-so-secret ingredient that gives the donuts their specific characteristics. While potato-based donuts may sound like a contemporary idea, the shop dates back to 1949. Donuts are available as airy "spudnuts" or "spuddie" frycakes, along with apple fritters and French crullers. Visit the convenient take-out window from 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. daily.

Donut Land

1321 Pearl Rd., Brunswick, OH 44212

No, you're not dreaming. There really is a Donut Land in Cleveland, and it's just as magical as you'd expect. 2020 marks the 46th anniversary for owner Bill Rienerth and his homestyle donuts that are still made using original recipes. One happy change has occurred in that time, as Bill's son and great-granddaughter have joined him in the business. The staff works overnight to ensure the regular, filled, and "fancy" donuts filling the display case are as fresh as possible. Celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and other special events with a custom-made donut cake featuring your choice of filling, frosting, and written message. The best part of all? Donut Land is open 24/7.

Once you try one of baker Courtney Bonning's plump creations, you'll understand why the shop is named Bigmouth Donuts. Courtney worked for months to perfect her proprietary dough recipe that results in a brioche-like texture. In addition to the regular lineup of raised donuts and frycakes, Bigmouth features a filled donut of the week. One recent flavor was a hugely popular guava-filled malasada, which is a traditional Portuguese fried donut. The menu includes gluten-free and vegan options, along with a donut egg sandwich for heartier appetites. When you're in Rocky River, check out Bigmouth's newest location. Both shops are open every day but Monday.

Becker's Donuts & Bakery

22088 Lorain Rd., Fairview Park, OH 44126

While Becker's Donuts & Bakery produces a stellar assortment of cakes, cookies, and pastries, there's a reason why donuts get star billing. For years, families in Cleveland have gone to Becker's for their delicacies with a pleasantly crisp exterior and soft, pillowy interior. Satisfied customers rave about the strawberry jelly-filled, cinnamon roll, and glazed donuts in particular. Pair your selection with a cup of Becker's blend coffee, which also comes in different flavors. Becker's is open Tuesday through Sunday.

Raised and Glazed Donuts rhymes nicely, but it doesn't cover the full range of pastries and baked goods you'll find inside. In fact, the variety is so enticing that customers often find themselves buying a dozen because they can't decide on just one. Watch for the hot dog-shaped donuts and other whimsical shapes that sometimes turn up in the display case. Raised and Glazed Donuts is open mornings every day but Monday.

George's Donuts

1023 N. Aurora Rd. Unit B, Aurora, OH 44202

When it comes to filled donuts, nothing approaches the genius of the Orange Creamsicle from George's Donuts. Orange-infused cake batter is fried and stuffed with homemade vanilla buttercream for a taste that takes you back to childhood. George's is also known for its signature cannoli donuts with traditional Italian cream filling in the center, finished with a dusting of powdered sugar and a drizzle of chocolate sauce.  Donuts are baked fresh daily at the original location in Twinsburg. Both shops are open Tuesday through Saturday until noon.

Mmm ... Donuts!

Boston cream and jelly are neck-and-neck for the title of America's favorite donut filling. Which one gets your vote?

It features extensive landscaping, decorative lights, brick walkways, and picnic tables where you can sit and enjoy a cup of coffee with a friend while your dogs play.

3993 Hollenback Rd., Lewis Center, OH 43035

Like most dog parks in the area, this park offers separate play areas for large and small dogs. It's also light, so dogs and their owners can continue to safely play after the sun goes down. There are also three fenced water areas for those dogs who love to swim!

Want to help out? This park has a monthly meetup on the last Saturday of each month from 10 am until noon. This is a great way to meet like-minded people (and their dogs!) while also working on small improvement projects around the park.

Tee Up at These 9 Golf Courses Around Cincinnati

Golf Courses - Cincinnati, OH - Cutler Real Estate

If ever there was a summer when we could all use a day on the golf course, it's this one. In the midst of a year that will long be remembered for face masks and Zoom meetings, a breath of fresh air in the great outdoors feels more precious than ever.

Did we mention that August is National Golf Month? When you get down to it, there may be no better game than golf for the times we're living through. You're outside, you can easily maintain social distancing, and you get to release some tension by hitting a ball really, really hard. We recommend doing just that at these Cincinnati area golf courses.

Woodland Golf Course is one of Cincinnati's true hidden gems. The 9-hole executive golf course at Woodland makes it a favorite of families, newcomers to the game, and anyone with an hour or two to kill before they have to head back to the office. It's fun, family-friendly, and affordable. Plus, if you're looking to try something new and exciting, Woodland is also home to an 18-hole footgolf course (think of it as a combination of golf and soccer) that has a reputation as one of the best in the Midwest.

Public golf courses sometimes get a bad rap for being unkempt and poorly maintained. But Blue Ash Golf Course, often cited as one of Cincinnati's finest public courses, makes a strong argument to the contrary. With a reputation for being professionally and regularly maintained, Blue Ash Golf Course offers a fun and relaxing course that can challenge golfers of all skill levels. Golf Digest ranked Blue Ash Golf Course among the 75 best municipal golf courses in America. There are also terrific views to be had from just about any hole on this 18-hole, par-72 course.

Another of the top public courses in the city, California Golf Course lies on the east side of Cincinnati, on sloping terrain that overlooks the broad expanse of the Ohio River. You'd be hard-pressed to find a city-owned course with a better view. It's a fun 18-hole course, with tree-lined fairways and challenging greens. California Golf Course is also one of Cincinnati's longest municipal golf courses, with 6,227 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 70.

Nestled in the community of Loveland, Ohio—about 15 miles northeast of the Cincinnati city limits—Hickory Woods Golf Course is a spot that keeps golfers coming back time and time again. That's partly thanks to the picturesque scenery at Hickory Woods, but also because of its notoriously challenging greens, especially in the back nine. The course makes for a great weekend getaway, equally welcoming to rookies and seasoned golf veterans, and can test just about anyone's skill.

Devou Park Golf Course lies just over the Ohio line in Covington, Kentucky. One of its most striking features is its scenic hilltop location, which offers a spectacular view of the Cincinnati skyline. It's also a favorite haunt for local bird watchers, nestled among the rolling hills of Devou Park and right under a major flyway, and is a certified Cooperative Sanctuary by Audubon International. The staff is friendly and experienced, and the 18-hole course feels secluded and peaceful, despite being convenient to both cities.

Designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus, the course at Aston Oaks Golf Club offers some truly magnificent scenery. It's perched above the Ohio River, and shaded by majestic white oaks and hickory trees. The 18-hole course features 6,908 yards of golf from the longest tees, for a par of 72.

Although its location on the far east side of Cincinnati might make it seem like a bit of a far-flung destination for some, the Vineyard Golf Course has a lot of great features that attract golfers from all over. A lot of it has to do with the course's handsome scenery, with gently rolling fairways and well-manicured greens lined with mature trees. It's simply a lovely golf course to look at, but the Vineyard offers up a challenging round as well. It's been called one of the best conditioned daily fee courses in Cincinnati and is a favorite of locals and visiting golfers alike.

One of the finest public courses in the region on the Kentucky side of the Ohio River, Twin Oaks Golf Course is known for its palatial Southern-style clubhouse as well as its beautifully maintained 18-hole, par-70 course. Twin Oaks was built in 1927 and is still one of the best places in Northern Kentucky to enjoy a day on the links. With a mixture of mature trees sprinkled throughout the course, as well as its fair share of sand and water obstacles, it's always a fun challenge.

Avon Fields Golf Course is an 18-hole, par-66 course that's been challenging local golfers since it opened to the public in 1914. It's not only the oldest golf course in Cincinnati, but the oldest municipal golf course west of the Allegheny Mountains. It offers a fun and challenging game of golf to this day, but also has an immense amount of history on its fairways. Avon Fields has historically been very important to the city's African-American community and was one of the few courses in town that didn't discriminate based on race during the era of segregation.

We Bet You Didn't Know These Things About Cincinnati

Cincinnati's History - Cutler Real Estate

You probably know Cincinnati is Ohio's largest metropolitan area, the setting for classic sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati and home to the second oldest zoo in the country. Originally settled in 1788, Cincinnati has a long and rich history yielding a number of fascinating stories.

Here are 11 fun facts to know and tell about Cincinnati. Which ones are new to you?

Cincinnati has an honored place in major league baseball history as home of the first all-professional team, the Red Stockings, better known as the Reds. Their first game took place on May 4, 1869, a 45-9 blowout win against the Great Westerns, also based in Cincinnati. The Reds have made it to the World Series nine times and emerged victorious five times, most notably with back-to-back wins in 1975 and 1976 during the heyday of the "Big Red Machine."

Skyline and Gold Star may be more well-known names today, but Cincinnati's iconic version of chili originated at Empress Chili. Brothers Tom and John Kiradjieff, immigrants from Macedonia, started selling their uniquely seasoned meat sauce in 1922. Cincinnati chili can be enjoyed in a bowl, on a bed of spaghetti or atop a hot dog, with your choice of onions, beef or cheese. While there are now more than 150 chili spots around the city, Empress Chili remains "the first edition of a Cincinnati tradition."

More than 25 percent of Cincinnati residents share a German heritage, which they proudly celebrate each September at Zinzinnati. More than half a million people attend this three-day event, making it the largest Oktoberfest celebration in the country. Approximately 80,000 bratwurst, 25,000 potato pancakes, and 23,000 soft pretzels are consumed while guests enjoy live musical entertainment, a wiener dog race, and the world's largest chicken dance. Every year, the mayor of Munich issues an official decree pronouncing Zinzinnati as the largest Oktoberfest celebration outside of Germany. Zinzinnati 2020 is scheduled for September 20-22.

Cincinnati Was Originally Named "Losantiville"

At its founding in 1788, the settlement was named Losantiville by John Filson, the original surveyor. "Losantiville" is a hybrid of terms from four different languages meaning, "the city opposite the mouth of the (Licking) river." Two years later Arthur St. Clair, governor of the Northwest Territory, decided he didn't care for the name. He changed it to Cincinnati as a tribute to the Society of the Cincinnati, a group of Revolutionary War veterans which included St. Clair. The Society took its name from legendary Roman statesman Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus.

Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, Findlay Market welcomes upwards of one million visitors annually. The museum was founded by a man with the equally quirky name of William Shakespeare Berger, affectionately known as W.S. Berger was a self-made success in business, literally working his way from the mailroom to president of the Cambridge Tile Company, but he was fascinated by ventriloquism. After serving as president of the International Brotherhood of Ventriloquists for more than 20 years, Vent Haven Museum was created to preserve and share Berger's incredible collection of ventriloquist dummies. Tours are conducted seven days a week from May through September by appointment only.

The Town Crier Tradition Is Alive and Well in Cincinnati

Before the days of electronic and print media, town criers held the responsibility of sharing news throughout a community. While this tradition has all but disappeared, the Cincinnati village of Mariemont maintains one of approximately 14 town criers in the United States. The post is currently held by Dr. Bob Keyes, who "moonlights" as a geriatrician and co-director of the Christ Hospital Health & Aging Center. Keyes' duties include opening town meetings and leading the Memorial Day parade.

So, if you want to leave the decorating, cooking and cleaning to someone else this year, we suggest booking a space at one of Columbus' best restaurants or banquet halls. We rounded up a handful of our favorites to make the choice even easier.
