Treat Dad to the self-serve wine station, where he can sample several different varieties, or go for the wine flight with four pours of house choice. Be sure to ask about the $5 brunch bar specials on Sunday. The Mediterranean-influenced brunch/lunch menu includes creative dishes such as baklava pancakes, shawarma wrap, and garlic lemon chicken. Bareburger takes pride in preparing their food with ethically sourced ingredients. Their beef is all organic, grass-fed, and hormone-free. They also offer a great selection of plant-based burgers.

One favorite at Bareburger is the Blazin' Bacon, which is topped with pepper jack, smoked bacon, pickled jalapenos, and habanero mayo. The Guadalupe is a popular plant-based option that comes topped with organic tomatoes, pickled red onions, and avocado. Don't forget to order some truffle asiago fries or organic sweet potato fries for the side.

Flip Side is a gourmet burger restaurant with a few locations throughout Ohio. All of their beef is grass-fed and raised in Ohio. In addition to burgers, they also offer some incredible craft milkshakes made with local ice cream, and their macaroni and cheese practically has its own fan club.

If you like peanut butter, you have to try Flip Side's Uncle Jimmy burger. It's topped with peanut butter, applewood bacon, and pepper jelly. This may sound like a strange combination, but the ingredients complement each other well. Another fun choice is the One Red Door burger, topped with crispy shallots, melted brie, and applewood bacon aioli. Not a fan of beef? Flip Side offers an Impossible Burger, along with several turkey burger options.

Matt and Tony's Kitchen x Tavern

Matt and Tony's Kitchen x Tavern is a local pub that has a few great burgers on the menu. They make their burgers with Certified Angus Beef, but you can substitute chicken breast if desired. The Chimi Burger is a great choice if you like smash burgers. It's topped with melty jack cheese, chimichurri, caramelized onions, and bacon. They also have a build-your-own burger option.

Matt and Tony's is a great place to celebrate National Burger Month with kids. They have a dedicated kids' menu with options including a burger, mac & cheese, and chicken tenders.

Alley Burger

You enter this casual restaurant from an alley, and that's part of the appeal. It's tucked away like a secret, but it's a secret worth sharing. Alley Burger often has live music, and the chef relies on traditional family restaurants to make delicious meals.

At Ally Burger, you don't have to stick with a beef burger, though their beef burgers are certainly delicious. The Fish Burger is a popular choice; it's topped with a house-made Creole tartar sauce. The Greek Burger, made with tzatziki cream, banana peppers, and feta, is another smart choice. Make sure you order some fries for the table. There are lots of creative options, such as the Oscar Alley fries topped with chorizo, pico de gallo, lime crema, chimichurri, and cheese.

Burger Theory Columbus

With a name like Burger Theory, you'd expect this place to have some creative, innovative burger choices. And the selection does not disappoint! Even their BT House burger comes topped with their own KGB Sauce. If you're feeling adventurous, try The Boss. It's actually two burgers stuffed with bacon, onion, cheddar, and Swiss cheese. Pair it with some Parmesan-panko onion rings, and you have a truly munch-worthy meal.

Mason Jar Treats are another favorite at Burger Theory. They're the perfect, sweet way to end a meal. Choose from flavors like key lime pie, s'mores, and carrot cake. Visit Burger Theory Monday-Friday from 5-7 pm for Happy Hour Specials, which vary by the day.

Arch City Tavern

Located in the Arts District, Arch City Tavern is known for their lively happy hours. Visit Monday-Friday between 3 and 6 pm to take advantage of their drink specials. Of course, you'll want to order a burger while you're there. The Arch City Burger, topped with muenster cheese, onions, cilantro, chile aioli, and peppered bacon, is excellent, and try the lamb sliders instead if you want to be a little experimental.

The bartenders at Arch City Tavern are pretty talented, making this a good place to order cocktails. Their Smoked Tavern Old Fashioned, in particular, is incredible. They also have a delicious Spiced Pear & Pomegranate Margarita.

Press Grill

Press Grill is a casual neighborhood bar and restaurant serving craft cocktails and house-made cuisine. They always have a good selection of Ohio-brewed craft beers on tap.

One of the top choices here is the Press Burger. You can choose a single, double, or triple patty. Add cheese or a fried egg for something extra special. If you have a big appetite, then add on some sides. The Yukon Gold potato salad is delicious, as is the Texas toast. Even the balsamic greens are fresh, delicious, and a great way to get your veggies.

With three locations in the Columbus area, Fox in the Snow Cafe is always a great idea! This bakery and coffee shop makes excellent iced coffee and also services up rustic-style baked goods.

Brioso Coffee

If you're looking for a fun coffee experience, check out Brioso Coffee. Their slogan is "Mean Coffee, Nice People," and this is exactly what you can expect. The folks here take their coffee brewing seriously – so you can simply relax and enjoy a delicious cup of joe. 

Whether you visit their High Street or Long Street location, you won't be disappointed. They're happy to make you a cold brew or a nitro cold brew. However, if you're feeling adventurous, we recommend sampling one of their seasonal summer drinks. Some of the current specials include "Petal to the Metal," an iced rose vanilla latte, or the "Life's a Brioso Beach," an espresso tonic served over ice with a lime. Both promise to take your coffee experience up a notch (or two!).

Global Gallery Coffee Shop

Established in the Short North Arts District of Columbus, Global Gallery Cafe has been a local favorite since 1991. This non-profit, fair-trade coffee shop also carries a selection of products like wine, chocolate, jewelry, hand-crafted goods, and more. It's the perfect place to shop for that hard-to-buy-for friend or family member (or yourself!).

With a robust selection of flavors, this spot in Northeast Columbus is an absolute classic. Dave's offers online ordering, and they even have a cheesecake of the month club. Even if you don't live in our area, they have nationwide shipping available.

The Cheesecake Girl

For a great selection of over 20 varieties of cheesecake, stop by The Cheesecake Girl in Hilliard. This shop sells both full-size cheesecakes, mini cheesecakes, boozy mini cheesecakes, and cheesecake shooters. All items are made with local ingredients and baked from scratch. You have to try the White Chocolate Raspberry or the Red Velvet Cinnamon Roll. All orders must be placed online.

Katzinger's Delicatessen

This New York-style joint is known for their deli sandwiches, but they are also famous for having some of the best cheesecake in town. It's a half-pound slice of cheese and sweetness, and you can choose any fruit topping you like. If you enjoy it, you can even order an entire 10-inch cake to take home. The original Katzinger's is in German Village, but they also have a location in Dublin. Either way, you have to stop by this Columbus staple when you have a chance.

Belle's Bread

Belle's Bread is actually a French-inspired Japanese bakery that specializes in all cakes and bread, but it's their baked cheesecake that has quite the reputation around town. Rockmill Tavern

Opened in late 2016, Rockmill Tavern has become a favorite destination in the trendy Brewery District. The menu features upscale gastropub food, but Rockmill's signature Tavern Burger strikes a pleasing balance between traditional and contemporary. And it conveniently tells us the top destinations in every city on the globe—whether we're looking for food, drink or service. Based on the number of reviews and the ratings themselves, Yelp creates lists of nearly every restaurant in a given city so you know minute-by-minute where you should go for your next meal. Using that information, we compiled a list of the Columbus hotspots that are most consistently ranked in the top ten. Next time hunger strikes, take a tour through Columbus via its top dining spots. There are casual eateries, upscale restaurants and even a few bakeries, so no matter the occasion, there's something on this list to match it.  

1. Scotty's Cafe

This unassuming cafe in northeast Columbus has been a staple in the city's dining scene since 1989 and one of the area's best-kept secret for more than 20 years! Their extensive menu offers a little something for everyone. And the best part? For every entree purchased you get a completely free dessert!  While almost every Yelp review highlights the fantastic food, they also happen to mention the spectacular service. "All the reviews of this place are TRUE! The food is SO good, the price is right and the service is top-notch."  

2. Brassica

With four bustling locations all over the Columbus area, it's safe to assume that Brassica is something special. They serve healthy (and delicious) sandwiches and salads crafted from organic, local and sustainably sourced ingredients.  One Yelp review begins, "It's like they crawled into my head and said, 'Give me a list of your favorite foods,' and I said, 'Okay, but what are you going to do, build your menu around my preferences?' 'No man, we're going to put all of these ingredients into one sandwich,'" and if that isn't a rave review, we don't know what is!   

3. Tyler's Pizzeria & Bakery

Pizza, cakes, pastries and pies—count us obsessed! Opened in 2004, Tyler's is an adorable eatery in the heart of Reynoldsburg that only uses the best, local and organic ingredients. They specialize in hearty, wood-fired pizzas along with freshly baked pastries—including a Yelp-famous chocolate croissant that "just melts in your mouth." Head there this week, Tuesday-Saturday, and see what all the (well-placed) hype is all about.  

4. 3 Brothers Diner

3 Brothers Diner is a Mexican-American fusion restaurant, born out of three brothers' dream to share their unique style of cooking with the Grove City area. They provide a contemporary twist on authentic regional Mexican fare and plenty of American breakfast staples to complete your perfect weekend brunch. Their bright and refreshing interior makes this the perfect setting for enjoying an exceptional meal with family and friends. Yelp reviewer Eve R. summed up her feelings about 3 Brothers in just a few words, "OK people, you want a delicious meal and outstanding service? This is the place for you!"  

5. Flavor 91 Bistro

Located in Whitehall, this family-owned bistro is an unexpected gem in Columbus' culinary scene! Their menu features a variety of healthy and organic dishes, from hormone-free burgers to fresh salads. As for food selections, Yelp reviewers almost always mention their Ethiopian dry rub wings, one of the restaurant's signature dishes, for good reason.   

6. Momo Ghar

While there are plenty of reasons you should visit Columbus' Saraga International Grocery Store, Momo Ghar is a reason to stop by all on its own. Named time and time again as one of the best restaurants in the city, Momo Ghar is known for their MOMOs, Himalayan dumplings filled with meat and/or vegetables. Every item on their menu is fresh and handmade from scratch—including their renowned spicy sauces.  The most adoring review we found on Yelp begins, "I intentionally stop by Saraga International Market mainly because I want my hands on the deliciousness that is Momo Ghar!! These dumplings are so tasty and their spicy sauces take them to the next level."  

7. Cherbourg Bakery

At last! Columbus has a completely nut-and-gluten-free bakery in its midst. This Bexley institution offers an array of sweet and savory treats, including quiches, shakshuka, scones, muffins, donuts, bars, brownies, cookies, cake and more. Accompany your morsel of sweetness with a pour-over coffee, a cup of tea or orange juice! On Yelp, you'll find gluten-free individuals singing praises: "As someone who has been eating gluten-free most of my life due to Celiac Disease, this place is my dream come true. EVERYTHING here is gluten-free! It's also all not just gluten-free, but it's actually GOOD."  

8. Tula Taqueria

Every taco connoisseur in Columbus knows about Tula Taqueria. This small, family-owned restaurant has been serving their Yelp-famous fare since 2018—and we can't get enough! Reminiscent of dishes you could get from street carts in Tijuana and Jalisco, their tacos are simple, delicious and so good you won't be able to just stop at one.  And don't skip dessert either. One reviewer said, "Make sure to save room for dessert. They have really good churros - super fresh and tasty. You have a choice of either Cajeta (Mexican caramel) or chocolate sauce—definitely try the Cajeta!"  

9. Smoked on High BBQ

Originally known as Buckey Back Ribs and Papaya BBQ, Smoked on High BBQ has been bringing world-class barbeque experiences to the central Ohio region for half a decade. Their Southern-style barbeque is slow-smoked and promises to melt in your mouth. Do yourself a favor when you visit and order the brisket—you'll thank us later.   

10. Yappy Greek

Known for outstanding Greek cuisine, Yappy Greek is a restaurant and deli that offers a broad selection of Greek favorites, all made using healthy, natural ingredients. Around lunchtime, head to this laid-back deli in Worthington and order a tasty sandwich, salad, rice or anything else that catches your eye—we promise whatever it is, it'll be phenomenal. And it isn't just us who thinks so. Yelper Amber S. wrote: "YES YES and YES. Today was my 1st trip to Yappy Greek and I can't stop asking myself why I didn't try it sooner!"

The shop is conveniently located on High Street in the heart of the campus neighborhood and is a favorite for college students looking for a late-night study snack. Looking for something savory? Buckeye Donuts also has a selection of delicious breakfast items, gyros, salads and more—but seriously, don't leave the shop without a donut.

 

Center of Science and Industry

One of the most famous, and impressive, attractions in Columbus is the Center of Science and Industry or COSI. Officially opened in 1964, COSI inspires interest in science, technology, engineering and math topics through a special "hands-on fun" brand of learning. All across their 320,000-square-foot facility, they bring science to life through 300+ interactive experiences and exhibits. Go stargazing in the Planetarium; interact with dinosaurs in the Dinosaur Gallery; or take a ride on the High Wire Unicycle—17 feet above the ground!

 

Ohio Statehouse

The Ohio Statehouse is our state capitol building and is truly a magnificent sight to behold! Unlike many of the other states' capitol buildings, the Ohio Statehouse didn't take inspiration from the United States Capitol, because it was actually designed and built before the glorious building in D.C. was ever erected. Instead, it was built in the Greek Revival Style, with many features drawing inspiration from the Tholos of Delphi and the Parthenon of Athens. You can tour the historic building for free—Monday through Friday every hour on the hour, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

 

The Park of Roses

This public garden in the heart of Columbus has grown over the years to include over 12,000 roses or more than 400 varieties. While late May through mid-June is the best time to visit to find peak bloom, each season offers a unique and beautiful perspective. The park is free year-round and open to visitors from dawn to dusk.

 

Seventh Son Brewing

Since April of 2013, Seventh Son Brewing has been producing incredible beers at the intersection of 4th and 4th in Columbus' historic Italian Village. When you visit this top-rated Columbus brewery, you're guaranteed a good time thanks to the delicious food trucks outside, the creative brews, and the unique events they hold every week.

 

The Topiary Park

Inspired by Georges Seurat's famous painting, A Sunday Afternoon on the Isle of La Grande Jatte, this park is truly a local gem. Stroll through the garden and admire the artistry of the sculptures, each of which has a personality of its own. The iconic park is located downtown and is open 7 a.m.-11 p.m. daily.

 

North Market

Since 1876, the centrally located North Market has served Columbus residents—which makes it the most seasoned market in the area. The vendors (be they candy makers, fishermen, bakers or farmers) strive to promote the diversity and vibrancy of our Ohio community, serving only the best in locally produced products. They are open year-round and feature everything from ethnic foods to gourmet groceries and unique gifts.

 

The Ohio Theater

While this stunning theater is one of the state's most beautiful buildings, featuring Spanish-Baroque architecture with breathtaking details (including the 21-foot high chandelier!), it was created as "a palace for the average man." Thomas W. Lamp, the Scottish architect in charge of the Ohio Theatre project in the 1920s, envisioned a place where anyone, regardless of wealth or status, could go and see a film or a live performance. Today, you can experience all of the history and majesty at one of the 100+ performances the theater puts on each year.

 

Northstar Cafe

When visiting Columbus for the first time, a meal at this popular vegetarian eatery is a must! While they do serve a few dishes for meat-lovers at Northstar Cafe, it's their vegetable-focused meals that truly stand out. All of their salads are excellent—our favorite is the Chopped Salad, crafted with avocado, almonds, blue cheese, apples and an optional turkey or bacon topping—but you can't go wrong with anything on their extensive menu.

 

German Village

German Village is located in the heart of Columbus but still feels like it's worlds away. This is due to the German Village Society's efforts to maintain the historical feel of the neighborhood, the intricate architecture, and the idyllic urban garden parks throughout the area. In fact, German Village is one of the largest, privately funded historic districts in the country. Take a few hours to explore the charming streets and quaint shops and restaurants all around the neighborhood to give your parents a true taste of Columbus area history.

 

The Book Loft

While you're exploring German Village, don't miss the chance to stop into this bibliophile gem. The Book Loft offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It is one of the nation's largest independent bookstores and is made up of a grouping of pre-Civil War era buildings that were once general stores, a saloon and a nickelodeon cinema. The 32 rooms of bargain-priced books are bound to make you forget about the outside world for just a bit.

 

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams

Even most out-of-towners know about Jeni's. Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream creates some of the most famous ice creams around—they've even been named one of the best ice cream shops in the country by Food & Wine Magazine, Thrillist and US News. And it all started right here in Columbus when Jeni Britton Bauer decided to open a trendy ice cream shop in 2002. Stop by one of their many locations around the city for a cold treat; we highly recommend Brambleberry Crisp!

584 North High Street | Monday-Friday, 4-6 p.m., Everyday, 4-9 p.m. Bar 23 is a bar and lounge centered on the east side of North High Street in the Short North District. While you can almost always find a game on one of their large flat screen TVs, they don't consider themselves to be exclusively a sports bar. On the weekends, enjoy a more lounge atmosphere, with larger crowds and a DJ. Their weekday happy hour consists of half-priced appetizers along with their daily special of half-priced martinis from four to nine p.m.

Bodega

1044 High Street | Monday-Friday, 4-8 p.m. Bodega encourages you to come for the beer and stay for the food — and we couldn't agree more. They offer over 200 beers, 47 of them on tap, along with a fresh and inventive American pub-style menu. In addition to their daily specials, they offer half-priced draughts during their weekly happy hour. Be sure to stop in for their "$1 Grilled Cheese Monday" or their "$3 Gourmet Taco Tuesday" — which just may be the best thing ever.

Cosecha Cocina

This central hotspot is known for their live blues shows every Friday and Saturday night and weekday happy hour from 3–7 p.m. With its full bar and delicious pub grub, Olivers is a great place to be during Buckeyes games.  

Eddie George's Grille 27

Location: 775 Yard Street This modern restaurant was founded by the Heisman Trophy-winning Ohio State football star Eddie George, so it is naturally an exceptional place to watch the Buckeyes. The award-winning menu and beverage program completes the experience at this hotspot not far from the South Campus Gateway.  

Three-Legged Mare

Location: 401 North Front Street #150 This Irish-American tavern always has something going on — including live music, darts, pub trivia, rugby, soccer and just about any sporting event. With over 15 televisions and two giant projection screens, you won't miss a single play of the Buckeyes game at Three-Legged Mare!  

Short North Pint House

The modern industrial interior (with an open roof!) provides the ideal environment for a relaxed brunch or an exciting Buckeyes game. Coaches Bar & Grill

Location: 1480 Bethel Road Coaches is the place to be during any major sporting event, especially Buckeyes games. This neighborhood hotspot has over 50 TVs, good pub food and a spacious patio. Coaches offers a number of specials throughout the week, including $4 long islands, $5 craft beers, $3 Fireball shots and more.  

Out-R-Inn

Location: 20 Frambes Avenue Out-R-Inn is undeniably one of the most beloved bars for Ohio State fans. In fact, this mainstay has been voted one of the college bars in the country for its pre-game festivities and abundance of drink specials. The distinguishing factor of Out-R-Inn is its unbeatable atmosphere and energy, which keeps patrons (and alumni!) coming back again and again. When the weather is nice, relax on the spacious outdoor patio with picnic tables, TVs and cornhole, or retreat inside to play pool and darts when the weather cools. During big games in the fall and winter, the patio will often be open and equipped with space heaters.    

Varsity Club

Located just steps from the Horseshoe, the Varsity Club is a staple for Ohio State fans. This old school pub dates back to 1959 and still offers one of the best game day atmospheres for fans, plus one of the largest tailgate parties in the city. The cozy, wood-clad interior is accompanied by a large outdoor space in the back, where all the tailgating fun takes place!  

Chumley's

Location: 1516 North High Street Chumley's is another popular destination for Ohio State students for its proximity to campus, abundance of drink specials and lively atmosphere. This relatively new addition to the local sports bar scene has plenty of room to roam and large high-res TV screens in every direction. On game day, Chumley's will typically open early in the morning (sometimes as early as 7 a.m.!) for the ultimate pre-game experience.  

The Little Bar

Location: 2195 North High Street The Little Bar is another favorite amongst Ohio State students, but on game day, you'll find a mix of all ages. As can be implied from the name, the inside of The Little Bar is pretty small, but there is a spacious outdoor area with a giant projector playing the game. Plus, you'll find 16 flat-screen TVs throughout The Little Bar, which means you won't miss a play! Don't miss Tiny Gate, considered one of the best tailgate parties in the city.

Milestone 229

The brunch menu features mouthwatering options like breakfast nachos, beef brisket hash, bacon and egg pizza, and blueberry pound cake French toast.

Wolf's Ridge Brewing made our list of the best breweries in Columbus, but flavorful craft beer isn't the only thing this place does right. The brunch menu, featuring items like confetti doughnuts, beef tartare, poutine, tartines and Benedicts, is on point as well. We are fans of the Toad in the Hole, which boasts eggs from Copia Farm, Applewood smoked bacon, fingerling potatoes, stout cheese sauce and brioche. It's perfection — and it pairs very well with a beermosa!

Thanksgiving is one of our favorite days of the year, not only because it gives us an excuse to eat everything in sight, but also because it provides an incredible opportunity to relax and spend time with loved ones. Of course, sometimes the chore of preparing a full-blown feast can cut into your relaxation time. If you prefer to leave the cooking to someone else this year, consider making a reservation at a local restaurant instead. These Columbus hot spots are hosting Turkey Day celebrations with seasonal fare and plenty of good cheer, so you can spend that extra time considering what you are thankful for—primarily, no dishes.
