We've reached the end of another year and while we look forward to new beginnings in 2018, we still have one more day to celebrate 2017 and send it off the right way! Make a toast to the many memories shared this year with family and friends at a local event in the city this NYE! Happy Zoo Year December 31, 5 – 9 pm at Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden As part of the 35th annual PNC Festival of Lights, the Cincinnati Zoo is celebrating the new year with a Happy Zoo Year party. The annual NYE party at Rhinegeist is one you'll look forward to year after year. In the past, they've had live DJs, local food, an upstairs speakeasy, wine, cocktails and a bounty of in-house brews! New Year's Eve at The Stretch December 31 at The Stretch Cincinnati's The Stretch is always throwing stand-out parties and New Year's Eve is no different. In past years, they've had party favors, DJ entertainment, a live Q102 broadcast to ring in the new year, a midnight champagne toast, special-edition kegs, and a donut bar from Holtman's Donut Shop! Thanksgiving is one of our favorite days of the year, not only because it gives us an excuse to eat everything in sight, but also because it provides an incredible opportunity to relax and spend time with loved ones. Of course, sometimes the chore of preparing a full-blown feast can cut into your relaxation time. If you prefer to leave the cooking to someone else this year, consider making a reservation at a local restaurant instead. These Columbus hot spots are hosting Turkey Day celebrations with seasonal fare and plenty of good cheer, so you can spend that extra time considering what you are thankful for—primarily, no dishes.

All of these restaurants will be serving a meal on Thanksgiving day, November 28th, 2019, unless otherwise noted.

The Boat House

There is no doubt that enjoying a home-cooked meal around the dining room table is a delightful Thanksgiving tradition. Doing the dishes afterward, on the other hand, is one tradition we could do without! Luckily, there are a handful of local Akron and Canton restaurants offering up Turkey Day feasts of their own. That's why they're offering a curbside Thanksgiving meal pick-up on the big day. All you have to do is place your order before end of day on November 21st and you'll be treated to a fresh, roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, cornbread stuffing and pumpkin pie—which will be hand-delivered to your car on Thanksgiving Day.

Well behaved dogs, cats, critters and humans are all welcome to grab a photo with Santa at this event! Your furry friend will look pawsitively fabulous set against a colorful holiday background, and you'll leave with a keepsake to display proudly every season. There will be a minimum $15 donation for a 5-10 photography session with the Big Guy himself, and all proceeds will go towards supporting animals awaiting adoption.

Where: The Hartville Marketplace and Flea Market, Hartville  

Children and adults alike will have a blast at this food-filled event. Join Santa Claus for a hearty breakfast at the Hartville Marketplace. Breakfast With Santa at Lock3

Santa is going to be hungry after all of that flying around! Bring the family and join him for a pancake breakfast at Lock3. After eating their fill and sharing their Christmas wish list, your kids can explore the Akron Children's Museum, ice skating or a game of Polar Putt-Putt. The Holiday Party at the McKinley Presidential Library & Museum

The Holiday Celebration at the Huston Brumbaugh Nature Center

Where: The Huston Brumbaugh Nature Center, Minerva

Watershed Kitchen & Bar

The modern digs of the Watershed Kitchen & Bar are located smack dab in the center of the Watershed Distillery and production facility, which can make it a bit difficult to find. Of course, that's part of the reason we love it so much. The bar whips out approachable yet surprising cocktails crafted from spirits distilled on site, so while you're sipping, you can learn about the process behind the drink. Of course, the cocktails are just half of the equation. Settle down in the dining room to enjoy a Midwestern meal crafted with local and seasonal ingredients. The philosophy here is honest food, honest drinks, respect for ingredients, and respect for people — and it's definitely one we can get behind.  

Kuya Ian's Bistro

Filipino food has finally made its mark on Columbus in the form of Kuya Ian's Bistro. This family-owned spot might look unassuming from the outside, but the menu is filled with soul-warming cuisine from the Philippines that impresses even the most discerning of palates. The prices are low, the portions are generous, and the friendly atmosphere will bring you back again and again.

Cosecha Cocina

Following their other successful concepts, Harvest Pizzeria and The Sycamore, Grow Restaurants made the leap into Mexican cuisine with Cosecha Cocina, which has been wildly successful since its debut in mid-March. The restaurant is housed in a charming refurbished barn, and the menu includes inventive small plates and shareables that are steeped in Mexican influence, but incorporate a modern twist.

The Keep

Located in the historic LeVeque Tower, the Keep Liquor Bar is a modern French brasserie and cocktail lounge that pays homage to the speakeasies of the 20s and film noir while offering its own modern take. The state-of-the-art beverage program includes regional craft beers, specialty cocktails, and a wide variety of wine by the glass or the bottle, and the menu is filled with French classics and surprising combinations that are sure to wow.

The Olive Branch Coffee and Pizzeria

The Olive Branch offers up excellent coffee and scratch-made pizza, which means our two favorite things have finally collided. Where else can you enjoy a soul-warming espresso drink alongside woodfired pizza? All menu items are made to order and customized entirely to your preferences — so you can choose one topping or all of them. Regardless, we're sure it will be delicious.

South Village Grille

The holiday season wouldn't be complete without a tour of Cleveland's many-splendored light displays. Take a walking tour around your neighborhood once the sun sets, or go out on the town and see what the rest of the city has to offer. Here are some the best places to find Christmas lights in Cleveland:

• Nela Park: General Electric will display more than half a million lights in the park this season, and the display is free and open to the public. While this exhibit has been popular for years, General Electric has recently announced the sale of Nela Park, so this season might be your last chance to catch the show!
• The Playhouse Square: This popular theatre district will be a winter wonderland through the end of January!
• Strongsville Winter Wonderland: The display in Strongsville, located in the city's public square, is consistently rated as one of the best in Ohio.  
• The Crown Point Festival of Lights: Also located in Strongsville, the Crown Point Festival of Lights never fails to impress. In fact, it was featured on ABC's "Great Christmas Light Fight" in 2015!
• Taggs Candy Cane Lane: This display in Mayfield Heights has been a fan favorite since its inception in 2004. Enjoy more than 8,500 lights synchronized to holiday music! You can enjoy the display through New Year's Eve.
• The Chrystal Tours Family-Friendly Holiday Light Tour: Enjoy hors d'oeuvres before embarking on a family-friendly limo tour around the city!

Experience the Tallest, Fastest Ice Chutes in Ohio

This winter, Cleveland Metroparks will celebrate 50 seasons of successful, fun-filled tobogganing! Experience the icy thrill for yourself at the Chalet in Strongsville. Here, you'll find two 700-foot chutes, and plenty of kids having the time of their lives.

The Greater Cleveland Aquarium, located in Cleveland's historic Flatts neighborhood, hosts a number of fun-filled events throughout the year, but we have to admit that the Seas'n of Play is one of our favorites. Visit the Cleveland Zoo

There are zoos, and then there's the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. The 183-acre space is filled with more than 2,000 animals from all over the world and countless attractions. After visiting the lions, tigers and bears, take the opportunity to get a picture with Santa and tell him what you're wishing for this year. A Christmas Story (1983) is on the top of everyone's list for must-watch family movies during the holidays! After the movie is over, relive all of Ralphie's greatest adventures at the Christmas Story House & Museum, which features the Parker home restored to its original movie splendor. You'll find original props, costumes and memorabilia from the film, as well as hundreds of rare behind-the-scenes photos. Want to extend the experience? Make a weekend of it and stay overnight!

Conduct an Experiment at the Great Lakes Science Center

You could say the Great Lakes Science Center has fun down to… well… a science. Here, you and the family can gaze at the stars in the planetarium, engage with hundreds of fun and educational exhibits, and even make things explode — under the supervision of experts, of course. See? Learning really can be fun.

Try a New Snow Sport

Whether it's skiing, snowboarding or tubing, winter break is the perfect time to get out on the slopes and try something new. The nearby Alpine Valley Ski Resort offers several runs for beginners, as well as an expert run to challenge yourself. Additionally, kids and adults alike will love the Polar Blast Snow Tubing area! Enjoy a thrilling day filled with fast-paced runs, and a convenient conveyor to transport you and your tube back up the hill. For more difficult terrain, head to Boston Mills and Brandywine, which both offer a few more blues and blacks than Alpine Valley.

Take a Scenic Train Ride  

Trains might not be the most convenient way to travel, but they certainly are the most fun! Enjoy a nostalgic train ride through Ohio's winter wonderland on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. While any route comes with its fair share of adventure, we are particularly fond of the Polar Express rides throughout November and December, which allow families to don their pajamas and journey to the North Pole.

Update: The Polar Express rides are now sold out, and the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad will not be resuming regular train rides until January 20. The train will host many fun excursions in January, and pre-purchased tickets make the best holiday gifts! Visit cvsr.com for more details. 

Go Ice Skating

There's nothing more magical than carving new ice on skates — especially when surrounded by festive lights and holiday music. Northeastern Ohio is filled with a number of indoor and outdoor skating rinks, all of which offer the perfect opportunity for a winter adventure with the family. Here in Cleveland, our favorite place to skate outdoors is the Wade Oval, which is open from early November to early March (weather depending), and boasts free skating lessons on Saturdays at noon.
